As a primarily Humanistic therapist, my approach is to help you deepen your internal processing helping you to direct your own path to healing rather than to dictate and “give you the answers”. I do believe that we all have the answers we need inside us, however, from time to time we need help clearing the mist, pain and confusion which can occur in anyone’s life. I do, depending on the problems at hand, integrate other approaches to therapy to help build resilience and stability so that this type of therapy is possible.
As a trauma therapist reprocessing past experiences, processing current triggers and building strengths for the future is an integral part of the work for many clients.
Other therapies I integrate into my work include EMDR, elements of Psychodynamic Theory and also use Grounding and Mindfulness based approaches where appropriate. When working with complex trauma responses, I also make use of Structural Dissociation Theory, which is a framework for understanding the dissociative process and provides a useful road map for healing. As each person is different and unique, it is not a “one shoe fits all” but an adaptable approach.
